What's in a Name? The Story Behind (Ecourage)

A company's name often reflects its purpose. At (ecourage), our name tells the story of what we believe, how we work, and the future we're helping create.

At first glance, "Ecourage" may look like a combination of eco and courage, and that's intentional. Creating a more sustainable world requires courage: the courage to challenge the status quo, rethink long-standing systems and habits, and invest in solutions that prioritize long-term impact over short-term convenience.

But there's another layer to our name and logo that reflects an equally important part of our identity.

Why (Ecourage) Appears in Parentheses

You'll notice that our logo presents (ecourage) inside parentheses.

This design choice symbolizes our role as the platform behind the scenes.

While (ecourage) develops the technology, infrastructure, and systems that make reuse possible, we believe the spotlight belongs to our partners—the retailers, brands, institutions, and organizations leading sustainability initiatives within their communities and industries.

Our mission is not to put our logo on every package. Our mission is to empower others to showcase their commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The parentheses represent our philosophy: we provide the foundation that enables change while allowing our partners to be the visible champions of that change.

A circular economy isn't built by a single company. It's built through collaboration. The parentheses in our logo remind us that our role is to empower others to lead.

said Jeroen Gebbink, Co-Founder & CEO.

The Infinity Symbol Hidden in Our Name

Look closely at the center of our logo and you'll notice something unique.

The"c" and "o" in (ecourage) form an infinity symbol.

This design element reflects our commitment to a circular economy, one where resources remain in use for as long as possible rather than following the traditional "take, make, dispose" model.

Today, most packaging is designed for a single use. Once its contents are consumed, the package often becomes waste, regardless of the material it is made from.

We believe packaging can have a much longer and more valuable life.

Our refill and reuse technology transforms containers from disposable products into reusable assets. A single container can be filled again and again, extending its useful life while reducing the demand for new packaging and preventing unnecessary waste from entering landfills.

The infinity symbol represents this continuous cycle of use, refill, and reuse.

Turning Packaging into Assets

For decades, packaging has been treated as a cost.

We see it differently.

Every bottle, jar, container, and package already represents energy, materials, labor, transportation, and resources. When those packages are discarded after a single use, much of that value is lost.

(Ecourage) helps businesses unlock more value from the packaging already circulating through the supply chain by enabling it to be reused repeatedly.

By adding a digital identity to reusable packaging, containers can become traceable assets that generate value throughout multiple refill cycles.

In doing so, we help shift the conversation from waste management to resource management. The goal isn't simply recycling more. It's creating systems where less waste is generated in the first place.

More Than a Logo

Our name and logo are visual reminders of the future we're working toward.

The parentheses reflect our commitment to empowering partners rather than competing for attention.

The infinity symbol reflects our belief that packaging should remain in circulation, creating value over and over again.

Together, they represent a simple idea: sustainability works best when innovation makes circular behavior easy, accessible, and scalable. We're building the systems that help make that future possible—one refill at a time.

Whether you're a producer, retailer, institution, or sustainability leader, we invite you to join the Refillution and help build a future where reuse is the norm rather than the exception.
